Styling a Suit Jacket...Casually

As much as I enjoy only wearing suits as they were intended to be worn, for this post I wanted to be a little more versatile. Especially if you don't own a large selection of suits or sport jackets, it's helpful to understand the possibilities or some different combinations. A grey suit can be a wardrobe staple and easily dressed down for more casual occasions.

Instead of going with the traditional, light color shirt and dark tie combination, I flipped it around. A grey silk knit tie is a great item to have in the rotation since it works easily with virtually any pattern shirt (tie: Bows-n-Ties). Denim shirt and jeans is bolder combination, but the grey in the jacket and tie help to give it balance (Shirt: J. Crew, indigo, Jeans: 7 For All Mankind selvedge, raw, denim). The Cole Haan wingtip boots and the Pocketsqua.re pocket square add to the uniqueness.

For this shoot we headed over to the new RH showroom in Chicago's Gold Coast (this video tells the story and will make you want to go there right now click here). What a stunning showroom! The food was incredible, drinks were great and there are 5 floors of Restoration Hardware items showcased perfectly. If you're looking for something to do in Chicago, I highly recommend checking this place out!

Getting back to the outfit, it's a great way to mix up suits that maybe you haven't worn in awhile or to get more use out of a new grey suit. Perhaps you're attending a more casual work function, a date, etc. and just want to change it up from the standard button down shirt and chinos. Make sure the jacket is tailored well!
