Casual Spring Staples - Written by: @MyCasualLife

When the snow (finally) melts and the flowers begin to bloom, it’s time to put away the boots and coats in preparation for Spring. When I think of Spring style, I think of light washed denim, a fresh pair of sneakers, and a versatile jacket. With these three key pieces, you can create a variety of looks.

This has been my go-to Spring outfit: faded denim, a lightweight henley, sneakers, and a jacket to transition from day to night.

The jeans I prefer are the Matchbox Slim by AG. I love AG denim for the quality and variety of washes and styles, plus they are made in America. I like to go with a lighter wash for Spring and Summer as it tends to freshen up an outfit. The Matchbox Slim is the best slim-fit jean I have found, and I have tried a lot.

Henleys are a perfect shirt option for transitioning into warmer weather. This one from Jcrew is a staple in any collection as the stripes add character and a slight nautical vibe, which is always great for this time of year. I tend to stick with long-sleeved shirts during Spring when cool mornings call for the added warmth but when the afternoon suns comes out, I can just push up my sleeves to keep cool.

Jackets are probably one of the most practical and essential pieces to have for Spring. I don’t know about you, but where I live, the weather can go from 60 degrees and sunny to 40 degrees and rainy during the course of the day. This is why I always try to incorporate a jacket into each outfit. This happens to be one of my favorites, again from Jcrew. It is a Wallace and Barnes baseball jacket in cotton, which is perfect for this time of year, as it will keep you cool. The navy jacket goes with anything, and if it came in khaki, I would have purchased that one too. The great thing about jackets is not only do they keep you dry during unexpected April showers, but they can also be a transitional piece from day to night.

It’s said the first thing people notice are your shoes, so don’t forget about your feet. Spring is the perfect time for sneaker, especially in bold prints. This pair of Nike Killshot 2 has been my staple for the last two years. If you couldn’t tell, I thoroughly enjoy navy and white for warmer weather. Sneakers can be dressed up or down and are always comfortable. During the Spring months I pretty much live in Nikes or Vans as they come in an array of patterns and look great with jeans.

Now that you’re dressed, don’t forget about accessories. I can’t leave the house without three things: sunglasses, a watch, and my wallet. I have been loving this pair of shades by Persol. They have an iconic shape and the tortoise print matches everything. When it comes to wallets, I am picky. I don’t like bulky things in my pockets, which is why I opt of a cardholder. This cardholder by Burberry has been my holy grail for the last four years. It has plenty of card slots and even an ID pocket on the back, which is hard to find, so I have room for my essentials without the bulk.

Watches have become less of a functional piece and more of a style must-have. I haven’t found a watch quite as simple and beautiful as this one by Daniel Wellington. I love the rose gold face paired with the brown strap, which looks sophisticated, but not pretentious. It looks just as good with a suit as it does with jeans and a t-shirt.

There you have it, my go-to outfit. Remember that style is about versatility as the weather can be unpredictable. I hope my ideas will help you put together your staple Spring attire.
