A short sleeve button down shirt is the perfect balance between a normal button down shirt and a polo shirt. I find them even more perfect on a summer day when it's too hot for a long sleeve shirt, but you want something a little nicer than a polo shirt.

Wearing a really LOUD pattern is completely acceptable. They can be dressed with pants for an evening out or more casually with some some nice shorts at the beach.
